Elon Musk Is Building a Compound for His Many Children

Elon Musk is buying up mansions in a wealthy part of Austin, Texas, in order to create a compound for his many children (11, so far) to roam. As the New York Times reports, Musk now owns three mansions within a ten-minute walk of one another and apparently wants his children and at least two of their three mothers to live with him there.

According to the Times, Musk “offered some homeowners 20 to 70 percent above the value of their houses,” and some had to sign nondisclosure agreements just to see what Musk was offering. Currently, only one of three mothers, Shivon Zilis, is living in Austin, while Grimes has left the city amid a custody battle with Musk. The cluster of mansions apparently isn’t very private, and neighbors say they can tell if someone is home when there’s an extra security guard or when they “see a pet groomer pick up a small dog.”

Musk is keeping very busy with his planned communities. The billionaire also has ambitions to build a town outside of Austin for employees at SpaceX, Tesla, and the Boring Company. He also intends to bring X headquarters to Bastrop, which is rapidly becoming a Musk company town. In return, the city manager said they are preparing for more shit — “expansion of our wastewater plan, expansion of our water system, adding several million gallons a day to the system,” the city manager told Fox 7 Austin.

Back at the Musk family home front, neighbors are a little befuddled. “I just keep thinking with that much money, he’s probably got lots of whims and he’ll do something else soon,” a retired rancher who lives in the neighborhood told the Times.
