Vybz Kartel Featured on New Major Lazer Single ‘Nobody Move’
“Nobody Move,” the lead single for Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do reissue, comes months after Kartel’s 10-year-old murder conviction was overturned
Major Lazer are readying a deluxe reissue of their debut album Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do, dropping a previously unreleased collaboration with Jamaican dancehall star Vybz Kartel on Friday as the project’s lead single.
“Nobody Move” comes about three months after Kartel was freed from prison after his decade-old murder conviction was overturned earlier this year. Kartel was previously found guilty in 2014 of killing Clive “Lizard” Williams, but the conviction was overturned in March after filing an appeal over claims that attempts to bribe jurors had tainted the case. Kartel won his appeal, and an appeals court declined for a retrial. “Victorious!!!,” the artist wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post back in March.
The single isn’t Kartel’s first collab with the electronic music trio; he also was featured on the Guns Don’t Kill People track “Pon de Floor,” which served as the album’s third single. He was also featured on “You’re No Good,” the lead-off track on Major Lazer’s second album Free The Universe. While Kartel was in prison for the past decade, he still was relatively prolific with his music, releasing several albums and singles while behind bars.
Aside from the new track with Kartel, the reissue will also feature a previously unreleased MIA collab called “Where’s The Baby,” and an instrumental song called “Pon de Streets.” The reissue will come out Nov. 15 and is available for pre-order now. As part of the anniversary, the album will also be pressed on vinyl for the first time and will also be available for purchase on release day.
