The Linda Lindas Release ‘No Obligation’ Title Track: Listen
“We won’t adhere to what anyone else thinks we should sound like or who they think we are,” says the band
The Linda Lindas are in music for their love of the craft. On Tuesday, the girl band released their new single “No Obligation,” the title track for their upcoming album written by vocalist Eloise Wong, about not conforming to the norm.
“Eloise wrote this ripper because we won’t adhere to what anyone else thinks we should sound like or who they think we are,” the band said in a statement. “We don’t make music out of obligation — we make music out of love.”
“And we’re so grateful for all of the opportunities music has given us, like going to Japan and making this video with a team including Naoko from Shonen Knife! Enjoy,” the group added.
The new single follows “Yo Me Estreso” with Weird Al Yankovic and “All in My Head,” which launched their No Obligation era. The group’s second album is set to release Oct. 11 via Epitaph Records.
In the lead-up to the album, the Linda Lindas will be completing a run of shows opening for Green Day, the Smashing Pumpkins, and Rancid on the Saviors Tour. Their time on the stadium run will be interspersed with headlining performances from the quartet. “When we started the band, it wasn’t the intention to be famous,” Lucia de la Garza told Rolling Stone in 2022. “We liked playing music and performing music and just doing covers of songs we really loved. It was fun.”
The group’s first album, Growing Up, dropped nearly two years ago. “I think you can really tell our voices are different, maybe because we’re all older. And I think our playing is better from practicing and writing so much,” Linda Linda’s Bela Salazar previously said. “It’s really cool to hear our progress.”
