The Darkness’ Justin Hawkins Reacts to Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce Duet
“I was just dad of the year,” Hawkins says. “Maybe dad of the century”
As a clip of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce belting the lyrics to The Darkness‘ “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” began to go viral, the rock band’s frontman Justin Hawkins took to TikTok to divulge his own experience with the pop star’s music. In a 90-second video Monday, Hawkins described the “extraordinary” hospitality he received while attending the Eras Tour with his daughter and partner.
“There was a man on a golf buggy guiding us in to the main stadium,” Hawkins said. “They put us in a lovely VIP area. I had Chris Rock on one side, Roger Federer on the other side.”
As Hawkins arrived in the VIP area, he found a handwritten letter from Swift.
“What a thrill to have you at the show!” Swift wrote to Hawkins. “I’m a massive fan of yours and think ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’ is one of the greatest songs of all time. I hope you and your family have fun at the show! Thanks so much for coming!”
As Hawkins woke up to an outpouring of messages about Swift and Kelce singing his 2003 hit, he called the moment “heartwarming,” thanked the celebrity couple for the surprise, and said his daughter “can’t wait to tell her friends at school.”
“I was just dad of the year,” Hawkins said. “Maybe dad of the century.”
Swift, wearing a denim corset, matching shorts, and thigh-high, red boots, made waves Sept. 5 as she arrived at the Kansas City Chiefs‘ season opener in support of her boyfriend Kelce. The appearance was just a day after Kelce’s PR team shut down false claims about a “comprehensive media plan” for Kelce’s relationships “following breakup with Taylor Swift.”
Swift also made several appearances in a 30-second NFL promo video. As the video recapped the 2023-2024 football season, Swift was seen cheering Kansas City tight end Kelce, capturing the NFL’s obsession with the globe-trotting pop star.
