“I mean no disrespect to supporters of Mr. Trump, but to me the choice is very clear,” singer says after performing at North Carolina rally last week
After performing at a North Carolina rally last week (and getting cut for time from the Democratic National Convention), James Taylor has officially endorsed the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz ticket.
“The question for us voters is whether or not we believe in the Great American Experiment: Freedom, Justice and Democracy. One citizen-One Vote, the Rule of Law…,” Taylor wrote on social media Wednesday.
“I mean no disrespect to supporters of Mr. Trump, but to me the choice is very clear — Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will protect and preserve our Democracy. Donald Trump and J.D. Vance will not and their branding of anyone who opposes them as the ‘enemy within’ actually threatens the very fabric of our democracy.”
Taylor has been active in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential elections: He was scheduled to play the DNC but his performance was nixed after the convention (allegedly due to excess applause) ran long; unfazed, he instead performed “You’ve Got a Friend” last week at a Wilmington, North Carolina rally led by vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.
“No matter what the opposing party has been saying, our economy is the envy of the world and our alliances have never been stronger. The radical and in my mind, risky alternative is to continue the paralysis and division that the Republicans seem to be committed to,” Taylor continued in his endorsement.
“In my opinion, a Harris/Walz administration, built on and continuing with the extraordinary successes of the last four years, is the clear and rational choice. I hope you will join me next Tuesday in electing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
In 2022, Taylor went to the White House to celebrate Biden’s passing of the Inflation Reduction Act. Taylor performed “Fire and Rain,” while his wife Kim joined for “You Can Close Your Eyes” and “America the Beautiful.”
In recent weeks, Taylor has also lent his services to a Hurricane Helene benefit and paid tribute to Jimmy Buffett at the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
