Olivia Rodrigo Halloween Trick-or-Treat Surprise on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’
Come for Rodrigo bringing a little angel to tears and dumping an entire bowl of candy in a girl’s basket, stay for her asking a kid dressed as an old man if he was having a stroke
Usually, the most popular house on the block during Halloween is the one giving out full-size candy bars. But last night, one particular residence in Los Angeles raised the bar when trick-or-treaters were greeted not only with candy, but Olivia Rodrigo.
The musician teamed up with Jimmy Kimmel Live to surprise, scare, and serenade a bunch of kids stopping through the neighborhood. First, they tried out a bait-and-switch tactic with help from Guillermo, who was dressed as Rodrigo in a full Guts tour costume. He would pop out first and determine whether or not they had some fans on their porch before the singer-songwriter made her grand reveal.
The reactions from the trick-or-treaters were sweeter than any candy being handed out. One young girl stared slack-jawed in shock at Rodrigo while the other crew of kids with her — including a few Care Bears and a pirate — grabbed handfuls of treats from her bowl. When they finally caught on, albeit with a bit of childish skepticism, she whipped out her driver’s license to prove she was the real deal. They ran away from the door, screaming in a good way.
The next batch of kids included a little angel who immediately burst into tears at the sight of Rodrigo. “Am I that scary?” she asked before pulling the girl in for a hug. Before they left, she offered them two different treats: a handful of candy or some money from her bowl of dollar bills. They went for the sweets. “I’ve never happy-cried in my life,” the girl said as she walked away from the house. There’s a first time for everything, especially when you’re probably only eight years old.
Rodrigo stunned a few more visitors into shocked silence, including one boy dressed like an old man with a pipe and cane who didn’t move an inch for a solid 20 seconds. “Sir, are you having a stroke?” the singer asked. Then, she challenged a girl to a game in which she would receive one piece of candy for every Rodrigo song she could name. Once she started shooting off deep cuts like “All I Want,” “The Rose Song,” and the Disney Channel Bizaardvark theme song, Rodrigo dumped the entire bowl into her bucket. Once it got dark out, Rodrigo led the last few rounds of trick-or-treaters in a sing-along of her spooky single “Vampire” — the clean version.
Rodrigo dressed up as herself for the skit but showed off her Wicked double costume with Iris Apatow over on TikTok.
