Bruce Springsteen ‘Road Diary’ Documentary: Watch First Trailer
The new doc examines Springsteen’s career as a performer, as well as the preparations for the E Street Band’s latest world tour
Bruce Springsteen shows fans what it takes to create that ultimate rock and roll magic in the new trailer for his upcoming documentary, Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
The film is centered largely around Springsteen’s latest world tour, which he became determined to do during the Covid-19 pandemic. “I made a promise that if we got through this, I’d throw the biggest party I could,” Springsteen says in the clip, before talking about the preparations for the trek: “There are two things I try to accomplish in rehearsal. One, you’ve got to shake the cobwebs off the band. And two, what will the rhythm of the show be?”
E Street drummer Max Weinberg then chimes in, “We wanted this show to be a real rock show. It’s all connected.”
Along with all the backstage and behind-the-scenes looks into this tour, the doc will also pull back and examine Springsteen’s life and career as a performer. “I grew up with Bruce and he was the most introverted guy you’d ever met in your life,” recalls guitarist Steve Van Zandt. “To go from that to the world’s greatest entertainer — it blows my mind.”
And to that end, it’s no surprise to hear Springsteen, at the end of the clip, make the ultimate promise: “I plan on continuing until the wheels fall off, and for as long as the audience will follow me. It’s my job.”
Road Diary was directed by longtime Springsteen collaborator, Thom Zimny. Itpremiered earlier this month at the Toronto Film Festival and it’s set to arrive on Hulu and Disney+ on Oct. 25.
