“Wicked” Production Designer Nathan Crowley to Accept Camerimage Honor
Six-time Oscar nominated productiion designer Nathan Crowley—whose next production is Jon M. Chu’s film adaptation of the musical “Wicked“–will accept a Special Award for a Production Designer at the 32nd EnergaCamerimage international cinematography film festival, which will take place from November 16-23 in Toruń, Poland.
Crowley has earned Academy Award nominations for five of longtime collaborator Christopher Nolan’s movies, including “The Prestige,” “The Dark Knight,” “Interstellar,” “Dunkirk” and “Tenet,” in addition to Damien Chazelle’s “First Man.” In television, he was recognized with an Emmy nomination for the HBO scifi series “Westworld.”
More recently, he completed “Wonka” and “Wicked,” which will be released by Universal on Nov. 22. He’s now scheduled to design the new Avengers films for the Russo Brothers at Marvel.
Beyond cinema, he designed four exhibitions for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which accompanied the Met Gala, and collaborated with Sofia Coppola on La Traviata at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. He is also known for his design of the Hamilton ODC X-03 watch.
Also during Camerimage, three-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer Ed Lachman (“Far from Heaven,” “Carol” and “El Conde” is scheduled to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, Steve McQueen will be honored with the Special Award for Outstanding Director, and Gianfranco Rosa will receive the award for documentary filmmaking achievement. “Shogun” star Hiroyuki Sanada will be honored with the award for best performance in a television series,
McQueen’s latest movie “Blitz,” an Apple Original Film, will open the festival on Nov. 16.
