‘The World Between Us II’ Unveils First Teaser at Taiwan Content Fest

It was standing room only as the follow-up to 2019 Taiwanese series “The World Between Us” debuted its teaser at Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF), with “Meteor Garden” star Vic Chou leading an ensemble cast.

The series, set for a 2025 release, comes after five years of script development. The story opens with an arson case and explores themes of choice, healing, and gaps in social support systems, drawing inspiration from judicial cases.

The two-minute preview introduced a sprawling narrative spanning two decades and following six families impacted by various incidents including a police stabbing, a train derailment and parliamentary confrontation.

Director Lin Chun Yang, who returns alongside Golden Bell Award-winning producer Jayde Lin and writer Lu Shih Yuan, likened the production scale to “producing three dramas at once.”

Chou portrays Ma Yi-sen, a character dealing with the loss of his wife and child in an accident. “Ma Yi-sen is a heavy, emotional role with moments of intense grief, breakdowns, and uncontrolled anger,” Chou said at the event.

The cast includes Hsueh Shih-ling as embattled legislator Kao Cheng-kuang, who described his character as “idealistic and caught between self-realization and traditional politics” and “a sandwich filling” caught between aspirations and reality.

Hsueh noted his scenes with veteran actor Yang Kuei-mei, who plays his mother, were “an exhilarating experience.” Liu Tzu-chuan plays Hu Guan-jun, a young man with ADHD whose actions become central to the plot, while 15-year-old Ryan Pai takes on the role of Luo Yu, whose family faces upheaval following a violent incident.

The series is a co-production between the Taiwan Creative Content Agency, Public Television Service Foundation, Asiaplay Taiwan Digital Entertainment, and KOKO Entertainment, with DaMou Entertainment producing. Screenworks Asia, Catchplay’s production arm, handles international sales.
