‘Rugrats’ Live-Action Movie Set at Paramount
“Rugrats” is returning to the big screen. Paramount is developing a live-action/ CG hybrid feature film that’s based on the beloved ’90s animated children’s TV show.
Tommy Pickles and his pals Chuckie Finster, Phil and Lil DeVille will be animated in the movie, which is set in the real world à la “Sonic the Hedgehog.”
Jason Moore, whose credits include “Pitch Perfect” and the Tina Fey-Amy Poeheler comedy “Sisters,” is directing the film. “Saturday Night Live” actor Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidell penned the script. Karen Rosenfelt is producing, along with “Rugrats” co-creators Arlene Klasky and Gábor Csupó.
“Rugrats” premiered on Nickelodeon in 1991 and ran for several seasons. The series inspired several theatrical films, including 1998’s “The Rugrats Movie,” 2000’s “Rugrats in Paris” and 2003’s “Rugrats Go Wild,” a crossover event with “The Wild Thornberrys” TV show. In subsequent years, there was also the sequel “All Grown Up!” and a Paramount+ reboot that aired in 2021.
Deadline Hollywood first reported the news of the new “Rugrats” movie.
