Jubilant crowds celebrated in Seoul, South Korea after the National Assembly passed a motion 204-85 to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol. Protests against Yoon had been intensifying since a short-lived declaration of martial law on 3 December.
In Seoul, the capital of South Korea, the streets erupted with celebrations following the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol.
Crowds gathered outside the National Assembly, waving national flags and holding signs, chanting “Long live South Korea!” after the vote result was announced.
The crowd of protesters held up light sticks, which are normally a common sight at K-pop concerts. Many others stayed in the area and continued celebrating into the night.
Police estimate the number of people who joined the rally at just over 200,000.
