‘Drag Race’ Star Lady Camden Doc ‘Lady Like’ Sets January Release
“Lady Like,” a documentary about “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 14 standout Lady Camden, aka Rex Wheeler, has been acquired by Freestyle Digital Media for North American distribution. The banner has set a release date of Jan. 3, 2025 for digital rental and purchase, with a DVD launch to follow on Jan. 7, 2025.
Directed by Luke Willis, “Lady Like” had its world premiere at the BFI Flare London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, selected to be the event’s closing night screening back in March. Willis and Carter Feuerhelm wrote, while Willis and Cookie Walukas are producers.
The film follows Lady Camden, the London-born, San Francisco-based drag queen that reached a global spotlight with a run on “Drag Race” in 2022. Along with Lady Camden, fellow “Drag Race” competitor Nina West narrates while Shiloh Clarke also features in the documentary.
“Following Lady Camden the past few years through her rise to international fame has been an incredibly healing journey for me,” Willis said in a statement. “Lady Camden/Rex’s journey to seek sanctuary in the theater is universal even beyond queer communities because — it is a story of searching for one’s place in the world. Everyone in all walks of life knows what it is to feel like an outsider. It is incredibly powerful to witness someone harness the courage to strike out and find where they do belong despite the odds. My hope is that you fall in love with Rex, fall in love with drag and most of all find strength and courage to persevere in your own journey to find belonging.”
Freestyle, a division of Allen Media Group, negotiated the deal with Glen Reynolds of Circus Road Films.
