A sanctuary home to more than 100 elephants and other animals has been hit by severe flooding, with water levels reaching up to five metres.
Four elephants are missing, including Fah Sai and Ploy Thong. Fah Sai, an excellent swimmer, was tragically swept away by the waters during a rescue operation, and Ploy Thong, a blind woman, was swept out of her enclosure. Their bodies were found five kilometres downstream.
Sangduean Chailert, the founder of the sanctuary, buried them near the site, planting trees in their memory.
